Pre-owned electric cars are still new enough in South Africa that many buyers aren’t sure what to inspect. The good news: there’s less to go wrong, and the things that matter are measurable.
Battery health beats mileage
On a petrol car, kilometres tell most of the story. On an EV, the battery’s state of health matters more, and it’s a number we can read from the car directly. A high-kilometre EV with a healthy battery is often a better buy than a low-kilometre one that has lived on fast chargers.
Check the remaining warranty
New Dongfengs carry a 5-year / 150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year / 120,000 km service plan. The 10-year / unlimited-kilometre battery, controller and motor warranty applies to the first private owner. The alternative cover is 8 years / 200,000 km, and terms and conditions apply. So on any pre-owned EV, confirm exactly which cover transfers to you and how much of it remains before you buy.
Ask about the charging cables
The portable charger and cables should come with the car. Replacing them afterwards is an avoidable expense, so check they’re in the boot.
Our pre-owned stock
Every pre-owned Dongfeng we list is inspected and battery-checked, and we’ll confirm exactly what warranty and service plan remain on it. Stock is listed and sold by our partner J-AJ Motors, and it can be financed exactly like a new car.
